ABOUT

A miscellany of paintings, celebrating the beauty of the world and mankind’s compulsion to capture shades of its glory in pigment.

Let us continue in the ancient tradition, practised by the artists at Lascaux, of capturing life’s wonder, one painting at a time.

Let us also learn to trust in providence, for we never know what life might bring. The great visionary Myles na gCopaleen once observed: if a stone be cast there is no foreknowledge of where it may land. Inspired by him, you might wish to consider exploring this website by clicking on one of the Tags (to the left or near the bottom of the page, depending on the size of your screen), which will generate a themed but otherwise random selection. Alternatively, you could press Serendipity in the top menu, directly if present or accessed by clicking the menu symbol (☰) at the top right of the page on devices with narrow screens; this will provide a single random page (and refreshing the page while in Serendipity will yield another random page). Clicking on About from any page will return you to this one. Clicking on any particular painting within a page will take you to its own page.

There is a great freedom in painting because you can do whatever you want with it; just as Mussorgsky was inspired by certain pictures at an exhibition, some paintings have inspired modest complementary artistic works. Feel free to share in these during a particular guided tour, accessed by selecting the tag PicturesAtAnExhibition. Alternatively, in a world full of noise, you might prefer to contemplate these images in an oasis of silence.
